Bear Claws: Gauntlets for Men

Pattern: Mine! Get it under the Free Patterns section in the sidebar

Yarn: 75 g of Beehive Superior Double Knitting and Needlepoint Yarn (Mothproofed) %100 Pure Virgin Wool Lot 6

This yarn has got to be older than me! It's a Canadian yarn sold in a 2 oz ball. I got it cheap at Value Village for $2, and despite a "Grandma's house" smell (nothing that can't be washed away), it makes a nice dense fabric in a deep, rich, reddy brown.

Needles: set of 5 2.75 mm Clover bamboo dpn

Challenges: I reknit the gusset four times, trying to get it right. This yarn was remarkably generous, and doesn't look any worse for wear.

I wrote up the pattern, and made the second gauntlet from it, making it the same as the first.

My Beau loves them and has been wearing them everywhere: at the computer, out walking (if it's super cold, he just tucks his fingers in), writing, at school (Buchanan, the Arts building, is a million years old and not always the best heated building on campus), around the house.

I wrote up the pattern because I thought you might enjoy this pattern too -- well, that and the fact that I needed to remember how to make the matching pair.

Share and Enjoy!

[edit: I realize that I used a yarn that probably been discontinued longer than I've been alive, making it almost impossible to replicate these exactly. What I recommend, is to get a yarn that knits up to 22 st/4" or 23 st/4" and drop needle sizes until you get 24/4" for a nice dense fabric.

Also, the model (Dan, a 6'4" male) has 7" wrists and 8 3/8" base of fingers. He wears the gauntlets snug, with 1/2" negative ease in the wrist and 3/8" negative ease in the base of fingers.]

Dude! I'm so mad! I too, have been knitting gauntlets these past few weeks! Started out with a simple design that I was going to add thumb gussets to (the next thing I want to learn) Not only is your design really similar to what I was after, but you finished them first! grrrrr...

(not that I'm surprised, what with your mad +5 knitting skillz and all ^_^)

Crazy -- just a few weeks ago I picked up a crapload of those 2 oz. skeins at the loval Value Village, in pink, green, and cream. I was planning mittens. That's a nice brown you got, and your gauntlets are lovely. Thanks for the pattern!
